Assistant Principal

Greetings!

I am Darrell McCollum, and I am going into my sixth year as an administrator at Saraland High School. It is truly an honor and a privilege to work with all the amazing students and faculty here at Saraland High School and in our system. I am blessed and thankful for the opportunity to be an administrator at Saraland High School. I have worked for the Saraland City School System since 2014 where I started as an English and Speech teacher along with being a football (defensive line), basketball, and head varsity girls and boys bowling coach. I was awarded teacher of the year in 2016-2017 at Saraland High School and received the Golden Apple Award from WKRG during my tenure here. I have been in education for 20 years and I have 20 years of coaching experience. I also played collegiately at the University of North Alabama where we won three national championships in a row with a record of 41-1 and I am in the Fayette County Athletic Hall of Fame. I enjoy family, church, cooking, sports, and making people laugh. I have a genuine passion for mentoring children to be their very best in life and to realize everyone is gifted. I am always up for a good conversation with anyone because I do not meet any strangers. I am married to the love of my life Kala and we have two beautiful children, Aidan and Madison. My purpose in education is to utilize my vast experience and education to assist all children in being successful in life. GO Spartans!
