Admission to the Saraland City School System Pre-K Program for typically developing students who are four years old on or before September 1, 2020, is determined through a random lottery process. A team is designated by the principal and special services director to randomly select names from a pool of applicants who meet requirements. Eligible applicants for this program must be residents of Saraland or children of Saraland City Schools employees. Typically developing students serving as role models for students with special needs should demonstrate appropriate social, emotional, and communication skills. A typically developing student is considered to be a student who is not eligible for special education services, including speech and language therapy. All applicants will be screened by school professionals to ensure suitability to serve as a typically developing role model in the program. Screening will be conducted on January 24, 2020 at Saraland Early Education Center. Applicants will then be selected in a random lottery and notified in writing of their admission status no later than Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
Information Regarding Screening
All applicants will be screened prior to the drawing to ensure each applicant meets basic program expectations. This is an informal screening conducted by school professionals to be held at Saraland Early Education Center on Friday, January 24, 2020. Depending on the number of applicants, there may be multiple groups scheduled throughout the day. Parents will be contacted by phone or email well in advance in order to plan for the screening appointment. The purpose of this informal screening is to interact with and observe children in the preschool environment. The activities will not exceed two hours and a light snack may be provided. Please make sure the application indicates any food allergies that may exist.
